Partition wall in greenhouses – when and why

With a partition wall in the greenhouse, you can create different climate zones and bring in multiple functions under one roof. Here we present some examples of how our customers have used partition walls in their greenhouses.

When we think of greenhouses, it's easy to imagine a single open space where plants thrive under glass. But sometimes a partition wall can be the solution to create more possibilities in your greenhouse. Here we look at some different uses for greenhouses and how a partition wall can change both function and feel.

A home spa for relaxation

In the first example we encounter an exciting "greenhouse" that is not a greenhouse at all but more of a glazed conservatory. It is not uncommon for our greenhouse frames to be used for completely different purposes than greenhouses, which of course works great. This room functions as a home spa and is divided into two sections:

  • A smaller room with a whirlpool tub.
  • A larger room with a wood-burning stove and kitchen, which creates a lovely relaxation area.

The partition wall helps maintain the right temperature in the different rooms, delimits the functions and creates a slightly more secluded and cozy feeling in the bathroom area. The wall also became the starting point for the placement of a functional kitchen, perfect for cooking and social events.

Cultivation at Stabergs Bergsmansgård

In the greenhouse that we built at Stabergs Bergsmansgård, the partition wall is used for a classic greenhouse purpose - to create different growing climates.

The wall divides the greenhouse into a smaller and a larger section. In the smaller room, cultivation can start earlier in the year because it warms up faster and it is also more economical to maintain stable heat in a smaller space during the cold season. All cultivated plants are grown here that are later planted out in the garden. As the pre-cultivated plants grow and require more space, the entire greenhouse is used.

The partition wall enables flexible and efficient use of the greenhouse, giving growers greater control over operations and the opportunity to extend the season.

Combination of insulating glass and single glass

Another example is in Bohuslän, where a greenhouse has been divided into two sections:

  • One part is insulated and suitable for year-round use and for overwintering plants.
  • The second part is built with tempered single glass, perfect for extending the growing season but without the effect of insulating glass.

This solution is ideal for those who want to combine cultivation and other uses. It also provides the best of both worlds - the feeling of being close to nature that you get in a greenhouse with single glazing and at the same time the functionality during the winter months that you get with insulating glass.

Advantages of partition walls

Installing a partition wall in the greenhouse opens up many possibilities:

  • Climate zones: The possibility of having different temperatures in the same greenhouse.
  • More functions: Combine growing with relaxation, cooking or socializing.
  • Energy Saving: Insulate a smaller part of the greenhouse during cold months to reduce heating costs. The insulated section is also an excellent place for overwintering plants.

Whether your greenhouse is a home spa, a grow house, or a combination of both, a dividing wall can be the key to making the most of your space. Consider your needs and how a partition can help you create the greenhouse of your dreams!
