Summer excursion destination – greenhouses in cultural and historical environments

Right in the middle of the holiday season, we can recommend a number of great excursion destinations for those interested in looking at greenhouses. We have built greenhouses in several cultural and historical environments and here you can find the whole list, with some curiosities around. Maybe you'll pass by one this summer?

1. Faabro Farm

Fåbro Gård is a historic place in Lilaker in Oslo. It is a beautiful old summer pleasure that was built in the mid-18th century. In 2024, the doors of a new business opened here and now there is a café, bakery and shop for those who want to linger for a cup of coffee. The business is run by Victoria Dam and Sweden Green House has been commissioned to deliver the greenhouse that now forms part of the business.

2. Stjernsund Castle

At Stjernsund Castle outside Askersund, there were once several orangeries. But they were demolished in the 1950s. However, the need for premises for winter storage of the castle's plants, mainly large agave plants, has still remained.

In 2022 we built a new orangery on the site, which is now owned and operated by the Academy of Sciences. This is an exciting construction because the orangery is really being used in exactly the same way these buildings were once intended for. A very beautiful place to visit if you are passing by.

3. Hovdala Castle.

The greenhouse that we built at Hovdala is one of the oldest we have built. There is a castle park and garden that you can visit where you can see, among other things, the rare pimpernel nut Staphylea pinnata. The greenhouse at Hovdala was renovated and repainted in 2024 and is a real little gem to see. The park and garden, where our greenhouse is located, are open to visitors all year round.

4. Gunnebo Castle.

This is truly a castle well worth a visit. I am almost envious of everyone who lives near this beautiful place. There is both exciting architecture and several beautiful garden rooms to visit. When we were there, they were in full swing renovating the old orangery in the original 18th century style. Here You can read more about Gunnebo.

5. Staberg miners' farm.

Falun and Staberg are another beautiful place well worth visiting. What's extra fun is that the greenhouse we built with insulating glass is partly used for growing the cultivated plants that are planted in the park. At Staberg they have a tradition of growing old varieties of hops, among other things.

The greenhouse at Staberg Bergsmansgård is used for intensive cultivation. Thanks to the insulated glass, small plant cultivation can be started early in the year.

6. Katrinetorp Landeri.

At Katrinetorp outside Malmö, there is another Sweden Green House building to see. Here is the greenhouse behind old walls. The farm is called Katrinetorp Landeri and is one of Sweden's best preserved Empire buildings. The buildings have undergone careful renovation and today there is a café, restaurant and shops in the area.
