Partition wall in greenhouses – when and why

With a partition wall in your greenhouse, you can create different climate zones and combine growing with relaxation. Discover how to maximize function and flexibility.

When we think of greenhouses, it's easy to imagine a single open space where plants thrive under glass. But sometimes a partition wall can be the solution to create more possibilities in your greenhouse. Here we look at some different uses for greenhouses with partitions and how it can change both function and feel.

A home spa for relaxation

The first example is an insulated greenhouse that functions as a home spa. Here, the greenhouse is divided into two rooms:

  • A smaller room with a whirlpool for total relaxation.
  • A larger room with a wood-burning stove and a kitchen, which creates a lovely relaxation area.

This greenhouse is not designed for cultivation but to provide a place for recreation all year round. The dividing wall helps maintain the right temperature and delimits the functions of the two rooms, making it easier to adapt the greenhouse to different needs. The wall also became the starting point for the placement of a functional kitchen, perfect for cooking and socializing.

In the greenhouse that we built at Stabergs Bergsmansgård, the partition wall is used for another purpose: to create different growing climates.

- In the smaller room, cultivation can start earlier in the year because it warms up faster.

- All cultivated plants are grown here and later planted in the garden.

The partition wall enables efficient use of space by giving growers greater control over the climate in different parts of the greenhouse. This is a smart solution for extending the growing season.

Combination of insulated glass and single glass

Another example is in Bohuslän, where a greenhouse has been divided into two sections:

  • One part is insulated and suitable for year-round use and for overwintering plants.
  • The second part is built with tempered single glass, perfect for extending the growing season without the need for insulation.

This solution is ideal for those who want to combine cultivation and other uses, such as creating a cozy place for socializing or a relaxing corner.

Installing a partition wall in the greenhouse opens up many possibilities:

  • Climate zones: The possibility of having different temperatures in the same greenhouse.
  • More functions: Combine growing with relaxation, cooking or socializing.
  • Energy Saving: Insulate a smaller part of the greenhouse during cold months to reduce heating costs. The insulated section is also an excellent place for overwintering plants.

Whether your greenhouse is a home spa, a grow house, or a combination of both, a dividing wall can be the key to making the most of your space. Consider your needs and how a partition can help you create the greenhouse of your dreams!
